OSLO, Norway — Glamox is supplying lighting for the Dogger Bank A, B and C offshore wind HVDC substations in the UK North Sea.
The first substation, under construction by Aibel in Haugesund, Norway, was fitted with more than 640 specialist marine LED luminaires ahead of its transportation to the Dogger Bank A location. Emergency Damp Proof Light
AC electricity generated by the wind turbines will head to the substation and undergo conversion via transformers to a HVDC transmission before being relayed by cable to the UK mainland.
The Dogger Bank A substation will be connected to 95 GE Haliade-X 13 MW wind turbines.
Glamox is providing marine-certified external and internal LED luminaires for all three substations, including anti-corrosive, waterproof linear luminaires and floodlights for lighting gantries, walkways, cranes, doors, stairwells, corridors and machine rooms.
The company will also supply lights for some of the turbine transition pieces between the monopile foundations and the wind turbines. In addition, it is lighting associated commissioning service operation vessels and Heerema’s crane vessel Thialf, which will assemble the turbines, substation jacket and topside.
Horticulture Light Dogger Bank, developed in three 1.2-GW phases, is a joint venture between SSE Renewables (40%), Equinor (40%), and Vårgrønn (20%). Dogger Bank A is due to start operations this summer.
